new questions

Hi Mike, I have got two small questions on the below sentences: one Italian car sales crash I think "crash"doesn't have the meaning of fall.why they use crash here?this is a title .  two Newly-released government papers show  Argentine invasion of  Falkland  island  in 1982 took the then Bristish Prime Minister ,Margaret Thatcher,by surprise. "then"before British  means "in those years"as noun,right? this is my partner guess. what do you think? Best wishes Maemie
