The dying of English Corners

English Corners are a very special phenomenon, you only find them in China. They are usually held at campus or at a park, people gather there and speak English to each others. Very few native English speakers would join English Corner, according to my statistics, almost 90%-100%  are Chinese.
The People's Park English Corner is one of these corners in China, and I guess this one has the longest history, it was traced back to 1978, several English learners started it and since then it lasted until today, more than 30 years have passed.

I joined the People's Park Corner in 1991 when I was in Senior 2, I still remember that scene vividly, nearly 200 people were chatting vigorously, the female and male rate is almost 1:1, and to be frank, there were lots beautiful ladies then.

But now...aha, before, the corner ran from 8:00A.M. to 6:00P.M., now if go there before 2:00P.M., there is no one. Plus, there are much fewer female and people (around 60-70) there.

In my memory, this change started from 2007, people and females are getting fewer and fewer since then in the English Corner.
